PPA TEC Introduction to Plumbing Basics
This 5-day course provides a foundational base for individuals to learn the basics of residential plumbing. The class will feature a blend of instructional theory and hands-on training applications in PPATEC’s newly constructed plumbing lab. The plumbing lab features concepts for students to learn the basics of piping and fixture installation, various type of water heaters, well pumps, and water treatment.
Day 1: Piping
• Water Supply
• Drains
• Pipe Connections – Copper, Pex, CPVC, PVC
• Hands-on soldering, gluing, and threading fittings
Day 2: Fixtures
• Including installation and troubleshooting for the following:
• Faucets
• Toilets
• Sinks
• Garbage Disposal
Day 3: Water Heaters
• Including installation, troubleshooting, sizing, venting, and maintenance for the following types of water heaters:
• Electric
• Heat Pump
• Gas Power Vent and Atmospheric
• Tankless
Day 4: Well Pumps
• Including installation, troubleshooting, and sizing for the following:
• Deep Well – will pull a pump during class
• Jet Pumps
• Well Tanks
• Booster Pumps
Day 5: Water Treatment
• Water testing for hardness, iron, PH, and total dissolved.
• Sizing, quoting, and selling proper equipment.
• Install and Maintenance
• Softeners
• RO
• UV Lights
• Acid Neutralizers
• Iron Removal
• Sulfur Removal

Target Audience: This 40-hour class is designed for the following:
- Plumbing apprentices with limited plumbing experience in the field
- HVAC technicians who need cross-trained to provide basic plumbing services
- Companies who are interested in diversifying their workforce
Our Instructors:
Mike Elmer has been in the HVAC and plumbing industry since 2002 and has worked for leading contractors in the South Central PA region. His background includes service HVAC, plumbing, and electric. Mike currently works in the field as a lead troubleshooting service technician.
